College of Jewish Studies Heidelberg

The Hochschule für Jüdische Studien Heidelberg (HfJS) was founded in 1979. It is supported by the Central Council of the Jews in Germany (Zentralrat der Juden in Deutschland), financed through the local and federal government and is a fully recognized and accredited institution of higher learning. Nowhere else in Europe can Jewish studies be pursued in comparable breadth and depth. 

The HfJS offers a variety of courses of study. The course listings range from Biblical Studies, Rabbinics, Jewish Art history, and Jewish Philosophy to programs in community work and rabbinic training. 

As a research university with international reach, Heidelberg University holds the strong theoretical and methodological competence evident in its subjects and disciplinary cultures as fundamental to its scientific endeavours. In addition to its disciplinary strengths, however, the university also acknowledges its social responsibilities and special potential to effectively address, through interdisciplinary cooperation, complex problems critical to the progress of humanity.
