University of Ilorin was one of the seven institutions of higher learning established by a decree of the Federal Military Government in August, 1975. This step, taken to implement one of the educational directives of the country’s Third National Development Plan, was aimed at providing more opportunities for Nigerians aspiring to acquire university education and to generate high level man-power.
Currently we now have 16 Faculties: Arts, Agriculture, Basic Clinical Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences , Clinical Sciences, Communication and Information Sciences , Education, Engineering and Technology, Environmental Sciences, Law, Life Sciences, Management Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Social Sciences and Veterinary Medicine.

The Student Affairs Unit is one of the units under the Vice-Chancellor’s Office which is to ensure that Students’ Welfare in terms of health Facilities, hostel accommodation, Electricity and Water Supply as well as smooth Inter-Campus transportation systems are provided. This unit also ensures peaceful co-existence among the Students with their diverse ethnic, cultural and religions backgrounds on the two Campuses.
The University Library provides specialized online and offline services for all staff and students. We subscribed to the best of databases that provides researches with peered reviewed articles that impacts the quality of research output from the University
The University health services department was established to cater for the overall health needs of the students, staff and staff dependents of the University community. The clinic is located on the Campus and provided a comprehensive health care covering both curative and preventive medicine.
The Main Campus currently houses the Faculties of Science, Engineering & Technology, Agriculture, Education, Law, Arts, Business and Social Sciences, (following the completion of the new seven-storey Senate Complex), the Unilorin Sugar Research Institute, Postgraduate School, the Main University Library, Computer Services and Information Technology (COMSIT), Works Yard, Conference Centre, Unilorin Resources Development and Management Board (URDMB), Student Canteens, the newly completed 2,000 seat multipurpose Auditorium and the Alumni/ Endowment Office.

My overall study experience has been both interesting and rewarding. Throughout the course, I gained valuable knowledge and improved many of my skills, especially in communication, critical thinking, and teamwork. The learning environment was supportive, and I appreciated the dedication of the lecturers and staff in helping students succeed. What I really liked most was the interactive aspect of the studies. The assignments, discussions, and practical activities made learning more engaging and easier to understand. I also enjoyed meeting different people and sharing ideas and experiences with my classmates. However, there are still a few areas that could be improved. Better access to learning materials, more practical sessions, and improved time management for certain activities would make the experience even better for students. More student support services and updated facilities would also help create a smoother learning process. In summary, my study experience was positive and impactful. It helped me grow academically and personally, and I am grateful for the opportunities and lessons I gained throughout the journey.
Rigorous training in sociology and analysis in uni
My overall experience at the university was average. The lecturers were knowledgeable and most of the courses were well structured. I appreciated the opportunity to learn new skills and meet students from different backgrounds. However, there is room for improvement in communication, administrative processes, and access to some learning resources. Better support services and more practical learning opportunities would make the experience even better. Overall, it was a worthwhile experience with both strengths and areas that could be improved.
