In line with the Hashemite interest in education and in response to the development needs of the community, a royal decree was issued in 1975 to form the Royal Committee of Yarmouk University. The University commenced its first academic year in 1976 with a number of students not more than 640 students.
The University embodies fifteen faculties, in addition to a language center, and the deanships of students' affairs, and research and postgraduate studies faculty. These colleges offer bachelor's degrees at the undergraduate level, diploma, master's and PhDs degrees in a number of disciplines at the postgraduate level.
The library has approximately 600,000 references in various fields of knowledge in several languages. These references are available in paper copies or digital versions. The library offers a number of digital databases containing thousands of international journals, books and university theses, available on the university's network.
The Health Center is located on campus and was established in 1995 to provide medical and health services to university employees, beneficiaries and students. An agreement was signed between the Ministry of Health and Yarmouk University for this purpose.
