History

Since 1889 Texas A&M University-Commerce has educated the people of Texas and, ever increasingly, points beyond. We are the second largest university in the prestigious Texas A&M University System, and we remain true to our founder William Leonidas Mayo’s creed of “ceaseless industry, fearless investigation, unfettered thought, and unselfish service to others.”

Student services

Campus Life and Student Development is comprised of 13 offices that are designed to serve and support you throughout your university journey. Staffed with highly trained professionals that treat you like family, we are here to support your personal growth and success.

Housing services

All full-time, first and second year undergraduate students, who enroll at the university within one year of high school graduation, are required to live on campus. A Commuter Authorization Request will be honored if a first year student is living with a Parent or Legal Guardian within 50 miles or less than one hour travel time from campus. If a student enters a housing contract during their first year, they will be required to live on campus for their second year unless they receive an exemption through the Contract Release Request.

ICT services

Welcome to the Center for IT Excellence (CITE). The rapidly changing path of information technology is expanding the borders of how we learn, discover, and communicate. CITE is eager to provide the needs of the campus by ensuring the current technologies are in place and in working order.

Medical services

Student Health Services offers affordable health care to the students and faculty/staff of Texas A&M University Commerce. We provide primary health care services including:

Campus life

Once you arrive in Commerce, please take the time to stroll around our beautiful campus. We have many new facilities for learning and recreation, including our new Student Center, Science Building and state of the art Planetarium, Recreation Center and dorms. There are often activities on campus that are open to all such as plays in our Theatre, music performances, art exhibitions and planetarium shows.

Sports facilities

The $12 million state of the art Campus Rec Center, which opened June 2003, serves as the “heartbeat” of student life at A&M-Commerce. The Morris Recreation Center includes: 45-foot climbing wall, 3-lane jogging track, 4 racquetball courts, 2 basketball courts, large fitness room with cardiovascular and weight equipment, aerobics room, classroom, snack area, and locker rooms. The outdoor area includes: heated leisure pool (beach-type entry, fountains, water tunnel, current channel, bubble jet benches, 3-lap lanes), 2-tier hot tub with water fall, 2 sand volleyball courts, 2 basketball courts, picnic tables, and a sunbathing area.

Accreditation

Texas A&M University-Commerce is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degrees. The university has been accredited by SACSCOC since 1925.

Honesty from a Magna cumlaude graduate

O&M is a respectable Dominican university; it gave me the tools and information I needed to develop into the marketer I am today. My main worry is that a significant portion of my knowledge comes from other resources and real-world experiences; the lectures are outdated.
