In March 1803, emperor František I signed a decree on establishing a Polytechnic Institute of the Czech Estates. Classes at the new polytechnic began on November 10th, 1806. F. J. Gerstner was appointed director of the institute.From September 8th, the Polytechnic Institute became a part of the university, and was given the status of an independent school.
The University is divided into 8 faculties and one school of business, each focused on different aspect of engineering. You can choose from more than 55 internationally recognised study programmes at bachelor, master and PhD level.
The CTU Career Centre helps students find their way in the employment market and provides free career-oriented seminars in English language. Career Centre also offers opportunity for Mentoring, where you can cooperate with your mentor from a private company up to 6 months and become a part of their working environment.

If you came here for a short term mobility - 1 or 2 semesters, the International Student Club can help you especially at the beginning of your stay to settle in new environment. Later on, you can take part in the trips and social events ISC organises for all international students or join various language courses.
Approximately 8,000 local and international students are accommodated each year in the CTU dormitories. Rule number one is that each new student shall be offered a place/bed. The accommodation is mainly in shared rooms, and it is not possible to apply for a separate single room at the beginning of the year. In response to many requests for single accommodation, we have tried to find a solution. If you wish to live on your own and there is no single room available, there is an option of getting a double room in a university dormitory for 1½ times the price for a bed in a double room.
National Library of Technology - with its 1.2 million volumes, the library on the university campus offers excellent study resources for the whole country. Each faculty building has study rooms and quiet learning areas with a free INTERNET connection. The university publishes inexpensive study notes, which are available at the bookstore in the National Technical Library.
CTU has several different campuses, and several other buildings that are used by the faculties of the university for teaching, research and other purposes. Most of the buildings are in Prague, but some are outside Prague, too. CTU has 8 faculties and one School of Business, and their buildings are mainly located in Prague 6 (Dejvice main campus) and/or in the city centre. The Faculty of Biomedical Engineering is located in Kladno, 30 km north-west of Prague.
The Institute of Physical Education and Sports at CTU offers more than 40 types of sports activities. Students can sign up for courses in the countryside or in the mountains in summer and winter. In the summer months, the emphasis is on water sports, ball games, mountaineering, windsurfing and cycling. The main winter sports are cross-country skiing, downhill skiing and snowboarding.
The CTU Student Union consists of clubs based on dormitories and on interests. There are external clubs, the Student Union parliament, and also the Student Union Central Office, the Control Commission, and a number of autonomous student organizations. We organize numerous regular and once-off sports activities, lectures and music festivals, and we show various video courses. We also represent students accommodated in Czech Technical University dormitories.

Good teachers, useful projects, great career help. I really liked this Computer Science program. The classes were interesting and modern. The teachers were helpful and knew a lot. We did many practical projects, which helped me learn real skills. The university also helped students find internships and jobs. The workload was sometimes heavy, but it was worth it. I feel ready for a career in tech. I would definitely recommend this program to others.
I am currently in my second year of studying Physiotherapy at the Czech Technical University in Prague. Before that, I studied General Medicine at the Second Faculty of Medicine of Charles University for a few years, so I�ve spent quite a long time in the academic environment already. Changing my field was a personal decision, as I realized I see myself more in a practical, patient-oriented role like physiotherapy rather than becoming a doctor. What I find interesting about this program is that it�s taught at a technical university, which is a bit different compared to classical medical faculties. There is a strong focus on things like biomechanics and understanding movement from a more analytical perspective, which I think is definitely useful. At the same time, sometimes it feels slightly less clinically focused than I expected. Overall, the school is clearly trying to provide both good theoretical knowledge and practical experience, which I appreciate. We do have practical classes where we can develop hands-on skills, and some of the lecturers are really experienced and able to explain things in a way that connects theory with real practice. Of course, it depends on the subject�some courses are much better organized than others. One of the more challenging aspects is the organization. The schedule can be quite demanding, with classes often running until the evening, and there are sometimes last-minute changes, which makes planning difficult. Another important thing is that the faculty is actually based in Kladno, not in Prague. This has a big impact on daily life. Kladno itself doesn�t really offer much in terms of student life, so most people commute from Prague. Combined with long days at school, it can be quite tiring and time-consuming. There is also not much support from the university in terms of financial help or adjusting schedules to make commuting easier, which can be frustrating at times. I also see a downside in the limited international opportunities. There are very few options for Erasmus+ exchanges, and if a student wants to arrange a professional internship or placement abroad, it usually has to be done entirely on their own, without much guidance or support from the university. In today�s context, I see this as a disadvantage. On the positive side, the facilities are generally good and we have access to the equipment we need for our studies. Being close to Prague is still an advantage, even if it means extra travel. Overall, I would recommend this program to students who are genuinely interested in physiotherapy and don�t mind a more demanding schedule. It�s not perfect, but if you are motivated and willing to put in the effort, you can get a lot out of it.
The first three semesters (before the specialization is selected) were quite good, if I could rate these three semesters separately, the score would be higher. The quality significantly dropped when I chose the specialization of Air Transport. Suddenly, it wasn't possible to choose among multiple professors for one course neither change the schedule (there were max two options if any). This faculty is quite secluded from the main campus of the university, so it feels quite disconnected. I am really disappointed with the quality of the Air Transport field. Furthermore, the projects for the bachelor thesis (the main reason why I have chosen this university) aren't as great as they are presented to be. Of course, it varies from project to project, but mine was a disaster, the profs weren't active at all and basically, it was like the project didn't even exist. So instead of working on a project based on which I would write my thesis (as promised at the beginning), I was just writing my thesis.
