The result of the merger in 2007 of four institutes: 

The National Institute of Higher Education in Agricultural Sciences, Montpellier, the National Center for Tropical and Sub-Tropical Environments (CNEARC), the Institute for Innovative Education In Experimental Agro-Environment in Florac and the National Institute of Higher Education in Tropical and Sub-Tropical Agri-Food Sciences  (SIARC) 


Instruction is given at Master of Science and Ph.D. level to train students to a high profile professional standard, educating future professional agricultural engineers who will participate significantly in designing and implementing a new agricultural revolution in order to:

  •  Generate strategies for feeding the planet
  •  Manage sustainable resources and territories


Montpellier Sup Agro is located in the most dynamic town in France. It benefits from a prominent and worldwide scientific environment in agricultural sciences and is part of Agropolis International. This association brings together more than 2000 scientific researchers working in 112 research units. It is the leading pole of expertise or 'cluster' of this kind in Europe.

The headquarters of the worldwide leader in agricultural sciences: The Consortium Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) is located nearby. The CGIAR with fifteen specialized research institutes set up in most developing countries employs 8500 researchers.


The Junior Entreprise (JEMA), a junior consulting / business service, is a non -profit making association (under the law of 1901). It allows Montpellier SupAgro students to work for companies.

Located on campus, students enrol according to skill. They are mainly called upon to conduct studies in the agronomy and agribusiness sectors. Their services can be matched with the requests from a range of customers: entrepreneurs, small and medium sized enterprises, large national or international groups, associations and so on. Businesses benefit from working with Montpellier SupAgro future agricultural engineers who are in touch with specialist teaching staff and researchers.

Housing services

Located just steps away from Montpellier SupAgro's La Gaillarde campus, our three residence halls have a combined capacity of over 600 places. The halls offer residents a sense of community as well as numerous practical services. All are within walking distance of the heart of Montpellier.


Students from other schools can apply if rooms remain available.

Library services

Montpellier SupAgro has one main library and two documentation centers open to the public and located on two sites: La Gaillarde in Montpellier and the Florac Campus in the Lozère region.

Campus life

Founded in the 10th century, Montpellier is a mix of history, culture and modern times. Located in the south of France, it is a hub of investment and development, tourism, education, medical facilities, research and business.

Montpellier is just minutes away from the Mediterranean coast and three seaside resorts: Carnon, Palavas and La Grande Motte. Picturesque Languedoc countryside is also within easy reach, as are mountains, lakes, rivers, plains, hills and the Camargue region, famous for its white horses and black bulls. Paris can be reached in just over an hour by plane and three hours by high-speed train (TGV).
