History
From 1831, under the leadership of Jean-Baptiste Brabant, father of the mayor of Namur, seven families contribute to facilitate the foundation of a Jesuit college in Namur, provided that a class of philosophy after school secondary.
Education
With 70 different programmes at the Bachelor, Master and Doctorate levels, the UNamur welcomes over 6.650 students in six Faculties: Arts, Law, Economics, Social Sciences and Business Administration, Computer Science, Medicine and Sciences. Its reputation is based on the quality of its education, the availability of its professors and sufficient resources to ensure maximum chances of success for each student: introduction to study techniques, preparation courses, small group work, course materials available on-line, personalized assessments.

Recently updated, the research landscape of UNamur includes 11 transdisciplinary research institutes . Research activities are based on cutting-edge scientific equipment grouped into 8 technological platforms . UNamur offers several services to researchers, such as the identification of financing opportunities, support inTechnology Transfer, or regarding International Mobility.
Many research units at UNamur possess state-of-the-art equipment that can be put at the disposal of researchers within and outside UNamur. The list of such equipment refers to the corresponding department and contact person.
Research units at UNamur offer different services to companies and establish research collaborations with industries and research centres.
Housing services
- The university has more than 400 residence units available for students: residences for women and for men, community/group houses and project kots (several private student rooms with common areas and facilities, living and working together in one residence on a common project).
- The private housing rental market is very well developed in the city. Many possibilities to find housing adapted to your needs exist.
- If you need a place to stay for a few days (waiting of your kot or during the preparatory courses), then Namur has: a youth hostel, or… a camp-ground, but there are also many guest houses, bed and breakfasts and hotels.
Library services
The Moretus Plantin University Library(BUMP) is the central library of UNamur.
The library is well stocked with some 800.000 volumes, 7.000 electronic periodicals, as well as multidisciplinary databases of bibliographical and text based files.
The library also has an invaluable collection of old and rare books.
ICT services
The ICT (Information and Communication Technologies for Education) Unit provides information, training, advice and support for the design and production of educational products and devices using Information and Communication Technologies. It participates in the development and / or support of projects selected during the call for multimedia projects.

When you see a doctor, the cost of the examination may be covered by your health insurance.

Campus life
The University campus is situated in the centre of the city of Namur, the capital of Wallonia (the French speaking region in Belgium), which is close to other major centres like Brussels. Students have direct access to the railway station, housing, shops, cinemas, theatres, sports facilities …
The UNamur campus has a lot to offer : a sports hall, a radio station, a choir, community housing for students sharing the same cultural or social project (« kots à projets »)… Various activities are organised on the campus such as sports competitions, tournamentsand challenges, introduction to music or plastic arts, language courses, theatre shows or concerts. Life is lived to the full in Namur.
Sports facilities
Doing sport it is good for health… but it needs to be fun! So find what's good for you. In Namur, whether it's for fun or competition, individual or on a team, inside or outside, the sports activities suggested make it possible for everyone to continue their favorite sport or to discover a new one.
The Students Association also organises, in collaboration with some project Kots, various tournaments (mini-foot, volleybal) during the year and some fun and unique activities at various times (university festival).
The University of Namur has a general sports hall including a large gym (minis-foot, basketball, volleyball), and rooms for martial arts and power-training.
Student clubs
The General Assembly of the Students (AGE) has for mission to collect and to defend the students of the University. Its main functions are the representation of the students, both with the faculties authorities and within the Federation of the Students French speakers (FEF) and the animation of the campus.
Accreditation
Notre Dame de Namur University is an accredited, independent Catholic, coeducational, master's university offering graduate, credential, and undergraduate degree completion programs. WSCUC (formerly WASC) has continuously accredited NDNU since 1955.
