HTW Berlin

History

  • The historical roots of today’s university of applied sciences can be traced back to the German Empire. In 1874, the "Fachschule für Dekomponieren, Komponieren und Musterzeichnen" (school of engineering and technical drawing) was established.
  • HTW Berlin is a comparatively young institution. In 2014 it celebrated its twentieth anniversary as an independent university of applied sciences.

Education

HTW Berlin offers over 70 study programmes in the areas of technology, computing, business, culture and design. Subjects range from classical disciplines such as mechanical engineering, automotive engineering and business administration to new and innovative study programmes such as facility management, economic policy and game design.

Research

HTW Berlin cultivates a broad understanding of transfer and cooperates with numerous institutions and key players in the areas of science, business, management and culture. The Cooperation Centre for Applied Sciences acts as the central point of contact for cooperation enquiries, putting interested parties in touch with appropriate experts at HTW Berlin and helping to set up cooperative research activities.

Student services

The Admission & Enrolment Office is responsible for all issues relating to applications, admission and enrolment at HTW Berlin. It also deals with all questions regarding your re-registration for each new study semester. The team is responsible for checking your application, conducting the admission procedure and processing applications for external leave, part-time study and de-registration as well as changes in personal details.

Housing services

  • All single apartments have their own kitchen and bathroom. The rooms are equipped with a closet, book shelf, bed, desk and a kitchen unit with a stove and shelves.

  • However, you will need to buy blankets, pillows, bedding, crockery and cutlery yourself or bring them with you.

Library services

The Central Library on the Campus Treskowallee is located in a number of buildings across the campus. This decision was taken for historical reasons. The central library is subdivided into the following areas:

  • Management & Course of business (Building B)
  • Loan Department (Building B)
  • Reading room 1 (Building A)
  • Reading room 2 (Building A)

ICT services

The IT Support Team of the HRZ is the first point of contact of all HTW members for IT questions. In addition to three permanent employees, student assistants work in IT support.

Campus life

The Wilhelminenhof campus is located in Oberschöneweide in the Treptow-Köpenick district in the South East of Berlin. Located directly on the Spree and steeped in history, this former industrial complex has been transformed into a modern centre for science. The imposing buildings have been sensitively refurbished and complemented by new buildings. HTW Berlin took up residence in the first building in 2006.

Sports facilities

  • The campus Treskowallee in Karlshorst has two sports halls, various course rooms and two beach volleyball courts.
  • On Campus Wilhelminenhof in Oberschöneweide there is a sports hall and a gym in building B.

HTW Berlin is the first university in Berlin to receive the quality seal from the Accreditation Council. System accreditation status means that HTW Berlin is able to guarantee the quality standards of its study programmes on the basis of its quality management system.
