History
The rich ore deposits in the Harz Mountains were the breeding ground for the economic importance of the region as a center of raw materials production. They formed the roots of the “Clausthaler montanistische Lehrstätte” founded in 1775 from which the internationally renowned “Bergakademie” (Mining Academy of Clausthal) originated in 1864.

Research
The research at the TU Clausthal deals with technologies and methods for the sustainable management of the resources energy - material - information and takes up the concept of the circular economy, to which various aspects are contributed. This concerns both the extraction of raw materials from primary and secondary sources, the design of resource-saving and recyclable materials and products as well as integrated questions of complex processes, short and long-term energy storage, and CO 2-Circulation or innovative concepts for business models. Digitization is seen as an essential cross-cutting issue.

There are different possibilities to live in Clausthal. Students could apply to live in a room in one of the student residence halls or look for accommodation through a private apartment market.

The Studentenwerk OstNiedersachsen is responsible for the distribution of rooms. If you are interested in one of these rooms, you must apply there directly.
- Private Accommodation
Students can also look for an apartment through a private apartment market. These apartments or rooms are often unfurnished. The most popular choice is a privately shared apartment, in which multiple students share a large apartment, but each has his or her own room.
