History
The Isle of Man College has a long and illustrious tradition of serving the further education and training needs of the Islands' community. Its formal origins were in 1880, with the opening of the Douglas School of Art, where Archibald Knox was one of the first pupils.
Education
The University College Isle of Man and Higher Education is an Associate College of the University of Chester. The majority of students graduating from the College do so with a University of Chester degree or award.
Combining the two institutions means you have access to contemporary and extensive learning resources, including the VLE of a major UK University; as well as the benefit of smaller classes and access to the expert tutors at the College.

Our staff are available during the College day and some of our services are accessible in College holidays too; we also have specialists such as a Careers Advisor and a Stop Smoking Advisor, are also available by appointment.

Student services
The Student Services Centre is here to help you enjoy your time at College and support you in your studies. We recognise that things that happen to you outside College have an impact on how you cope when you’re in College; we can offer advice and guidance to help you through the tough times, enjoy the good times and plan for a great future.

Library services
The Library is open almost sixty hours a week and is a one-stop shop for books, DVDs, newspapers, magazines, Internet-ready computers and much more. The friendly and knowledgeable Library team will welcome you and help you with all your information needs.
ICT services
There are 32 computers in the Library. All are Internet connected and have appropriate software. You will need a username and password to make them work, so please ask your Tutor.
Campus life
The Refectory serves hot and cold food and snacks during the day and a vending machine service in the evening. This bright, spacious area provides a comfortable communal space to eat, drink, relax and meet friends. Our attractive Training Restaurant serves food prepared and served by Hospitality and Catering students.
Sports facilities
Hair, beauty and holistic therapy treatments are available in the College Training Salons at very reasonable prices.
Student clubs
The UCM Student Association is led by the Student President (George Pressley) who works alongside elected officials and the Student Council. The President ensures that students are at the heart of everything that happens in the College and is here to represent the views and interests of all students.
The Student Council
At the heart of the Student Association is the Student Council, which meets twice termly. The Council is always seeking to recruit students to help with planning events and campaign on behalf of the student body.
Accreditation
The University of Chester is currently ranked 46 of 119 universities in the Guardian University Guide 2014. Rising 34 places in the last two years Chester is a university that is on the up; leading the rankings of all universities granted status since 2000.
