History
In 1975 Sweden’s sixth university was founded in Linköping. Since then Linköping University (LiU) has grown considerably, expanding to Norrköping and Stockholm.
Education
Linköping University has four faculties: the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Faculty of Educational Sciences, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Faculty of Science and Engineering (sometimes known as the Institute of Technology). Formally, Educational Sciences is an “area”, but in most cases it functions as a faculty. In some ceremonial contexts, LiU is considered to have three faculties, with Educational Sciences falling under Arts and Sciences.
Research
What makes Linköping University special is the lack of boundaries between different subjects and faculties, which has resulted in world-leading research environments and companies. In addition to scientific matters we address issues where the results can benefit all of society.

University Ranking
Housing services
In a nutshell, as part of their tuition fees all fee-paying degree students receive an offer from LiU for a single occupant student room for one year. LiU aims to offer a large percentage of exchange students with a single occupant student room for the duration of they stay at LiU, but due to demand, it is not guaranteed that a room will be offered. All other students need to organise their own accommodation. Since exchange students are not guaranteed a room and fee-paying students on a two-year programme will need to organise accommodation for the second year of their studies – all students should join the queue systems.
Library services
The University Library provides a broad range of high-quality resources for students. There is one library at Campus Valla and one at Campus Norrköping. Besides books and journals, they house computer terminals where students can retrieve information from local catalogues, as well as national and international databases. In order to borrow books and use computers and printers, you need a LiU-card.
ICT services
IT security issues at Linköping University are handled by LiU's Incident Response Team, LiU IRT. LiU IRT is a centrally located function for IT security handing, information and cooperation, and preventative IT security efforts.
Campus life
There are four campuses in three cities: Campus Valla and Campus US (both in Linköping), Campus Norrköping (Norrköping) and Campus Lidingö – Carl Malmsten Furniture Studies (Stockholm).

Kåkenhus is the heart of LiU Norrköping. It includes a café, lunch restaurant and library, the Student Health Care Centre and the Student Counselling Office.
Student clubs
At Linköping University, there are three student unions - Consensus, LinTek and StuFF - representing four faculties. Each education has a section linked to it. And each section has a party-committee or "festeri" which organizes all activities, parties and events för students at that program.
