De Stichting het Van Eeden -fonds bevordert botanisch onderzoek in de Guiana's en op de Nederlandse Antillen en Aruba. Hieronder vallen botanisch, ecologisch en etnobotanisch onderzoek en onderzoek ten behoeve van natuurbehoud.
Het fonds levert financiële bijdragen voor stages, veldwerk, publicaties en andere onderzoekskosten.
Gedurende de bijna 100 jaar dat het fonds bestaat, hebben honderden studenten en wetenschappers dankzij een subsidie hun opleiding en/of onderzoek succesvol kunnen afronden.
