"The PhD in Biomedicine is a training programme that aims to encourage scientists to develop innovative research projects in the field of Health and Life Sciences to complete a doctoral thesis".



"Our programme provides all necessary (analytical, experimental, and theoretical) tools to develop this research project and a scientific career. The PhD programme is an international programme attended by a large number of students from abroad".The PhD has been verified by ANECA (National Agency for the Evaluation, Quality, and Accreditation). In October 2011, the doctoral programme in Biomedicine was awarded the newly created "Mention towards Excellence" (MEE2011-0323) by the Ministry of Education.The PhD Programme in Biomedicine is designed for those students with a profile and a background in Biomedical Research coming from Master's degree courses focusing on:

  • Cell and Molecular Biology
  • Evolutionary Biology and Complex Systems
  • Biomedical Informatics
  • Genetics and Neurosciences
  • Public Health and Education in Health Sciences
These areas are developed by a large team of researchers of the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences, DCEXS,

In order to be admitted to Biomedicine PhD Programme offered by UPF, candidates must provide accreditation that they have obtained an accredited undergraduate degree (Bachelor degree or recognised equivalent degree from an accredited Higher Education Institution).

Moreover, they have to proof that they have obtained or are in position to obtain an accredited graduate/master's degree (equivalent to a Spanish Master Universitario/Oficial, Master's of Research.... ) which enables them to access a Phd programme in their home country.

In order to access a doctoral programme at UPF, you need to have completed 300 ECTS credits, 60 of those have to correspond to an official graduate, research orientated master's programme.
