University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) offer a range of support and services to help all students, but especially if you need a little extra assistance, because you are a carer for someone. 

Applicable programmes

Benefits

Support offered includes a Bursary and a Carers Support Plan so that academics are aware of the circumstances and adjustments can be implemented if required. The bursary will be paid as a lump sum in one instalment for that year.

The scholarship offers a £500 amount, to help you with your studies

Eligibility

  • A carer is defined as “anyone who cares, unpaid, for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction cannot cope without their support.
  • A carer is not a parent, unless they are caring for a disabled child, nor does it include caring responsibilities as part of a voluntary placement or paid work (e.g. child/pet minding) whether inside or outside the student’s course.”

You will need to provide evidence of your circumstances. The deadline for applying is 9 months after the start of the academic year in which you apply to your course, e.g. if your course starts in September, you need to apply before the end of May of that academic year.
