The programme

With an emphasis on building a scholarly community of learners, the program is cohort-based and accepts 12 students annually. The Distance Education program at the Athabasca University is delivered at a distance, with the exception of an initial onsite 5-day orientation workshop at the beginning of the first year of study.

    The TOEFL iBT ® measures your English-language abilities in an academic setting. The test has four sections (reading, listening, speaking, and writing), each with a score range of 0-30, for a total score range of 0-120.

    The IELTS – or the International English Language Test System – tests your English-language abilities (writing, listening, speaking, and reading) on a scale of 1.00–9.00.     The TOEFL®PBT is administered in a paper format and measures your ability to use and understand English in a classroom setting at the college or university level. It accurately measures how well you can listen, read and write in English while performing academic tasks.

General Requirements

  • Applicants for the Master of Education and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate & Diplomas programs must hold a baccalaureate degree from a recognized post-secondary institution. 
  • If the potential applicant does not have a degree, but believes his or her education and experience is equivalent to an undergraduate degree, then it is the responsibility of the applicant to put forward this position in writing as part of the application process.
