The School is a leader in technological research and innovation, with extensive national and international industrial links.
We develop and nurture the world’s top engineering talent to meet the challenges of an increasingly complex world by integrating our research and education programmes in order to support the technical and commercial needs of society and to extend the boundaries of current knowledge.
We have also recently been selected to lead one of EPSRC’s multidisciplinary Grand Challenges, SYMETA (SYnthesizing 3D METAmaterials for RF, microwave and THz applications), that is addressing the use of meta materials for future generations of high bandwidth communications and microwave applications.
Research grants, principally from the UK Research Councils and the EU, and extensive industrial collaborations means we currently have over £52m of live research projects.
Supporting us and helping to ensure that our output reaches and benefits society at large are our strong partnerships with many of the leading British and global technical and engineering organisations.
Our PhD students play a central role in our wide-ranging research activities, making vital contributions to the success of the research itself. We have internationally active research staff across 15 separate research groups who are ready to provide further details of possible projects.
The School has a vibrant, international community of postgraduate research students. During your time with us, you will able to publish your research findings in top peer-reviewed scientific journals, present your research findings at leading international conferences and network with scientists and industrial partners to maximise the impact of your research and start building your own professional network. The Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering programme is offered by the Loughborough University.

Applicants for graduate programs must have the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA equivalent to Upper Second Class on the UK Honour scale. Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of or better on the UK Honour scale. No exam grade should be lower than 4.5 (European grade scale) or D (American grade scale).

Our entry requirements are usually based on a 2:1 undergraduate degree (or the overseas equivalent) in a related subject area.
