The Ph. D. program in Computer Engineering is offered at the Bogazici University.


The PhD in Computer Engineering program at the Bogazici University consists of three stages:

  • Courses (C) + Qualifying Exam (Q) + Thesis (T)
  • The student is responsible for checking the correct semester type during registration to the Academic Semester and take the necessary actions to correct if there is an error.


  • Computer Engineering MS Program is accredited by Higher Council of Education in Turkey.
  • Undergraduate Program of Department of Computer Engineering at Bogazici University is accredited by ABET.

Programme Structure

  • The Courses phase consists of eight technical elective courses + CMPE700 (PhD Seminar). Technical courses are expected to be in alignment with the chosen research area. The advisor may ask the student to take as many non-credit courses as necessary. Note that non-credit courses do not count towards the GPA, but must be repeated if failed. The student cannot proceed to the qualification exam stage until all non-credit courses are passed.  If the advisor approves, certain non-credit 5XX courses that are otherwise offered for credit can be converted to a course with credits until the end of the add-drop period of the following semester.

  • Following the interview phase, the admission board evaluates each application based on several criteria, including the interview performance, evaluations of the faculty about the candidate, transcript(s) and reference letters to reach at a final decision.The admission decisions are officially announced from the website of the Institute of Graduate Studies in Science and Engineering (Fen Bilimleri Enstitusu). Only accepted and conditionally accepted candidates are announced, where the latter is for cases when further documents are required. During this 'conditionally accept' period, any missing documents that are needed for the official registration must be completed.
