About the program
The research degrees of MPhil and PhD are offered in any of the main three strands of Drama at The University of Manchester :
- Theatre Studies, Applied Theatre and Screen Studies.
You will have a supervisor with a specialism related to your field of research, and have the option to write a full 80,000 word thesis or complete a practice-based dissertation. The practice-based dissertation gives you the opportunity to submit practice as part of your final thesis submission.
The staff/student seminar series, Cultivating Research, provides a regular forum of debate and the presentation of short papers on a wide range of topics, and acts as a focal point in the postgraduate research culture.

- Academic entry qualification overview
- Successful completion of a Masters course with an overall classification of Merit or higher, or its overseas equivalent, with an element of research training, is a prerequisite for entry to a PhD.
- A research proposal must be included with the formal application materials.
