Overview

The Ph.D. in Business Economics and Quantitative Methods is jointly sponsored by the Department Business Administration and the Department of Statistics.

It is a full-time program, which begins in September. Students are expected to complete their Ph.D. thesis in two to three years.

There are two ways to enter the program. The main one is through the Master in Business and Finance at Universidad Carlos III. Students who complete the Master’s with a satisfactory GPA are accepted into the Ph.D. program. In addition, a very limited number of candidates who obtained a similar Master's degree in other academic institutions are also accepted into the program. In these cases, admission may be conditional on taking some courses and the submission of a thesis proposal.

The Business and Finance (Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing) at the Carlos III University of Madrid aims to train new researchers within the strategic framework and lines of research of the university. Each Ph.D. program has been designed to provide adequate and specific training in its scientific or technological research area. The students will be expected to work independently under the supervision and guidance of experts in their fields in order to produce novel high-quality research in the form of a dissertation.

The duration of the Ph.D. studies will be limited to three years from enrollment (candidates may apply for an extension of up to two further years).

The outcome of the doctoral training is the doctoral thesis, which will reflect the research undertaken and the results obtained. The thesis must meet strict hich quality standards established by the doctoral program, must be defended publicly, and assessed by an independent expert scientific committee.

Once the thesis is successfully defended and positively assessed, the student will be able to request the official degree certificate and title of doctor in the relevant field, which is issued by the Spanish Ministry of Education.
