Overview
Following several phases of expansion and restructuring it was established in its current form in the year 2000. Initially, Master’s and Doctoral programs were run in five separate departments, but since 2008 these have been integrated into three; Physics, Chemistry and Earth and Planetary Sciences.

- Graduate programs in Mathematics and Systems Life Sciences at Kyushu University are also offered in closely related, but independent, graduate schools.
- The objective of the Graduate School of Science is to provide an atmosphere of intellectual creativity in a broad range of sciences so that through their research, students can train to become specialists in their fields.
Programme Structure
Curriculum:
- The requirements for obtaining a graduate degree are creative thinking skills, problem pursuit skills, and problem solving skills rather than simply attending classes and accumulating course credits.
- The education in the Graduate School of Science puts emphasis on fostering these skills by promoting academic interaction between professors and students.
