Outcome
Graduates with a PhD in Statistics from University of Victoria will be able to:
- pursue a career in academia
- conduct research into the mathematical basis of the science of statistics
- develop statistical methodology and advise on the practical application of statistical methodology
- develop and apply statistical theory and methods to provide information in fields such as biological and agricultural science, business and economics, physical sciences, and engineering and the social sciences
- apply mathematical models to forecast and calculate the probable future costs of insurance and pension benefits
Programme Structure
Curriculum:
- A PhD student’s Supervisory Committee may require the student to demonstrate a reading knowledge of one foreign language (French, German or Russian). For each PhD student there shall be a Supervisory Committee of at least three members, chaired by the student’s academic supervisor, with at least one committee member from outside the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
- The committee members must be approved by the Dean of Graduate Studies and are normally members of the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
