Overview
This Romance Languages and Cultures programme offered by Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona supports investigation of languages such as French, Italian, Portuguese, or Galician. Candidates may also engage in comparative work across additional languages, exploring connections between linguistic systems and diverse cultural contexts.
Key Facts
The academic environment offers multilingual interaction, international perspectives, and access to extensive collections of documents and specialised expertise. Participants examine topics such as language teaching, speech analysis, lexicography, literary interpretation, and the influence of historical and social phenomena on linguistic development, while preparing for professional roles in mediation, translation, consultancy, and education.
Each candidate is assigned a thesis director who ensures the validity and innovation of the research project, oversees planning, and supports its alignment with academic activities. Responsibilities include advising on methodology, organising supervision meetings, reviewing progress, assisting with research design, ensuring compliance with requirements, and supporting thesis completion, with possibilities for external or joint guidance when academically justified.
