About the program
This program is separate from the Ph.D. in Materials Engineering offered by UAB’s Mechanical and Materials Engineering department, providing flexibility for students who may wish to study materials science while based in another department.
In addition, faculty members from across UAB’s campus provide materials expertise and serve on graduate committees for students at all campuses. This Materials Science program is offered at The University of Alabama at Birmingham.

- You will need to provide a statement of purpose, official academic transcript, references and submission of an official GRE score.
- International applicants (non-native English speakers) will also be required to complete a provisional language exam.
