Overview
About the programme
Within the field of Biomedical Imaging Sciences, established research programmes exist in neuroimaging, cancer imaging (including mammography) and musculoskeletal imaging.
Links with the Nuclear Medicine departments at the Christie NHS Foundation Trust and the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust enable the set-up of research projects embedded in clinical environments.
The University of Manchester's imaging facilities principally comprise pre-clinical and clinical Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) led by the installation of a new clinical combined PET/MR scanner.
Programme Structure
A particular strength across imaging modalities and disease areas is an emphasis on:
- image reconstruction
- image quantification
- pharmacokinetic analysis of the imaging data
- the application of computer vision to biomedical imaging
