Overview
About the programme
A Metallurgy and Corrosion research degree from The University of Manchester is held in the highest esteem and recognised worldwide. Many of our graduates work in the most prestigious institutions and organisations throughout the world.
Much of the Department's research has a significant impact on society and commerce; such as the development of new welding techniques enabling more fuel-effecient jet engines, and a new class of high performance, low density magnesium alloys to improve performance and reduce fuel consumption in the aerospace and automotive industries.
Programme Structure
Research areas:
- Our researchers have access to a unique set of facilities to support this work. We work on all classes of metallic materials including steel, light alloys, zirconium and nickel-based alloys.
- We bring together unique expertise in physical metallurgy, thermomechanical processing, and corrosion control to work across the entire lifecycle of a metal, from alloy design to performance prediction.
