Features
Byzantine, medieval Anatolian, Ottoman and Asian history are major topics of teaching and active research. The Department emphasizes world-historical and comparative perspectives and foregrounds methodological and historiographic issues in order to train students in critical thinking and research.
Teaching and research interests of the department’s faculty members cover a wide range of areas, periods and themes; they represent diverse approaches to the study of the past, including archaeology and the history of art.
The Department holds regular seminar and public lecture series, and hosts workshops and conferences on a diverse range of topics. Three Bogazici University research centers are closely connected to the Department of History.
