Key facts
On the Entrepreneurship, Management and Organisation programme of Hanken School of Economics , the goal is to support the development of the necessary current theoretical understanding, critical thinking skills, and entrepreneurial mindset and practices in graduates to facilitate proactive engagement with the problems of today and the future.
Through research and teaching, the course actively engages with the emerging scholarly and practical developments in topics including creativity, innovation, business transformation, financing, and venture capital. The course considers the roles of individuals, teams, organisations, networks, cultural, economic, political, and social contexts alongside different firm typologies. Subtopics in these courses can include business model development and testing, innovation management, corporate venturing, and internationalization. Students get to practice working with tools such as the lean canvas, design-thinking, and artificial intelligence. And, in line with Hanken and Finland’s values, considerations of sustainability and circular economy permeate all endeavors.
Entrepreneurship, Management and Organisation is a growing subject with a good academic network in Finland and the Nordic countries as well as to the business world. The programme has a strong scientific faculty with solid industry and entrepreneurship experience. Articles are published in top-level journals such as Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, and Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice. 1-2 PhD students graduate every year in entrepreneurship and management.

The course develops knowledge and education related to the launch of entrepreneurial ventures and the maintenance of entrepreneurial practices in established firms.

Applicants applying with a qualifying degree obtained in an EU/EEA country, need to fulfill the following requirements:
- The GPA in the qualifying degree needs to be at least a Grade B (US grading scale), GOOD or equivalent or higher. You can check if your GPA meets the requirements by using the WES World Education Systems online grading scale conversion tool. If there is not an conversion table for your country, Hanken will convert your GPA on a case to case basis.
- 70-79 (the scale used by Hanken 50-100)
- 3 (Finnish scale of 1-5)
- Grade B (American scale)

General requirements
- A research-based Master's degree with good grades from a recognised university constitutes the basis for admission to doctoral studies. The Master's degree has to include a comprehensive research based thesis.
- In order to be admitted as a PhD student the student must have sufficient and relevant previous studies in the field or major to which they apply to.

Funding
Hanken offers funding for doctoral students who study full time. Hanken also offers help in applying for funding.
There are three main potential funding options:- External grant funding from one of the foundations supporting research in the areas relevant to Hanken PhD students, for example the Foundation for Economic Education.
- Employment in an externally funded project; this alternative is particularly relevant for late-stage doctoral students;
- Scholarships from the Funds at Hanken can be applied for if/when these are announced. The scholarships are subject to availability
