Overview
The Medical Physiology programme offered by Koc University provides doctoral-level research training in biomedical sciences with a focus on neuromuscular physiology, vascular biology, and hematophysiology. It addresses gaps in understanding the functions of the human neuromuscular system, particularly the interactions between neural pathways, sensory inputs, and motor neurons, which are difficult to study directly in humans.
Key Facts
Students engage in specialized research conducted in advanced laboratories, including studies on blood-brain barrier function, endothelial cell behavior, and hematological processes such as blood flow regulation and diagnostic technologies. The programme also explores experimental and computational approaches, including deep learning applications, microfluidics, and cellular analysis in both in vivo and in vitro settings.
The programme emphasizes experimental methodologies such as electrical and mechanical stimulation, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and electrophysiological recording techniques to investigate neural circuitries and reflex mechanisms. Research outcomes contribute to improved understanding of neurological function and support the development of diagnostic tools, treatments, and applications such as artificial limbs and clinical interventions for neuromuscular disorders.Programme Structure
