Overview
Goals
Specific aims of the Cardiovascular Research doctoral programme at Karolinska Institute are:
- to organize a series of postgraduate courses designed to meet the specific needs of cardiovascular research education at KI
- to offer students learning opportunities for both fundamental knowledge and cutting-edge cardiovascular research
- to create a networking place allowing students to communicate/interact beyond groups and departments and between programmes and networks
- to provide the trainees with a cultivating ground not only for good science and research independence but also for social competence, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
Hence, the programme is committed to provide KI doctoral students and post-doctoral trainees with good scientific training both in pre-clinical, clinical, and epidemiological cardiovascular research.

- Cardiovascular pathology
- Vascular cell biology
- Experimental models in cardiovascular and metabolism research
- Control of inflammation: an introduction to bioelectronic medicine
- Vasculature in health and disease: mechanisms, models and targets
- Epigenetics in the cardiovascular system
- Flow cytometry: from theory to application
- Cardiovascular epidemiology

General requirements
A prospective doctoral student meets the general entry requirement for doctoral education if he or she:
- has been awarded a degree at advanced (equivalent to second-cycle in Sweden) level, or,
- has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits (ECTS) of which at least 60 credits (ECTS) were awarded at advanced level, or
- has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
