Overview
The Doctoral Programme in Health Care Science has the aspiration of generating a creative, stimulating, interactive and excellent environment for doctoral studies that gives room for the individual’s reflections and initiatives. Priority is given to doctoral students at Karolinska Institute who are wanting knowledge in the area of health care science.
Aims
The overall purpose and objective of the programme is primarily to meet the need for high-quality courses with a clear pedagogical strategy and long-term planning for doctoral students in the research area of health care sciences and related areas.
Also, to create opportunities for networking, to stimulate increased elements of internationalization and to contribute to interaction between doctoral students, supervisors and other researchers.

Course include:
- Interview techniques in health and care research
- Methods for statistical analysis: from variance analysis to multilevel modeling
- Measuring physical activity with focus on wearable monitors
- Occupational science conceptual development and application on research
- Observation as research method in health care sciences research

General requirements
A prospective doctoral student meets the general entry requirement for doctoral education if he or she:
- has been awarded a degree at advanced (equivalent to second-cycle in Sweden) level, or,
- has satisfied the requirements for courses comprising at least 240 credits (ECTS) of which at least 60 credits (ECTS) were awarded at advanced level, or
- has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.
