Overview
About the programme
Dresden is an internationally recognized hub for scientists working at the interface between physics and biology. Biophysics research at TU Dresden has a strong emphasis on investigating phenomena across all relevant scales – from individual molecules, to sub-cellular organization, to cellular properties, and on to tissues, organs, and organisms.
Our strength lies in the close collaboration between theoretical physicists, providing the conceptual and modelling framework, experimental groups, developing and applying state-of-the-art techniques to obtain quantitative data, and cell and developmental biologists, who contribute the necessary biological expertise.
Programme Structure
Research clusters include:
- Physical chemistry of biomolecular condensates
- Self-organization of living matter
- Physics of embryonic self-organization and morphogenesis
- Molecular transport in cell biology and nanotechnology
- Biophysics of epithelial growth and tumorigenesis
- Cross-species comparison and manipulation of the organoid zoo
- Structural basis of biological switches and biomolecular recognition
- Mechanics of active biomaterials
