We support doctoral projects in translation interfacing with French, Italian, German, Spanish, and Arabic languages and cultures. In the field of translation studies we support doctoral research investigating:
- the relationship between translation and publishing in a variety of national domains. Our students explore the rich holdings of our world-leading Special Collections and the Archive of British Publishers and Printing.
- Our Translation Studies students at University of Reading contribute to the research activities of the Centre for Book Cultures and Publishing.
- the application of textual, linguistic, and discourse analysis approaches to translation across different genres, modes, domains, and media.

- To be accepted to study for a PhD, applicants will normally need to have an undergraduate degree of at least a 2:1 (or equivalent) or a master's degree, in a subject related to the proposed PhD topic.
- In some areas of the University (particularly in the arts, humanities, social sciences and business) applicants are normally only accepted if they have a master's-level qualification.
