The Faculty of Health (Dal Health) is one of the largest and most complex Faculties at Dalhousie University, comprised of eight Schools (Nursing, Social Work, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Health Administration, Health Sciences, Health & Human Performance, and Communication Sciences & Disorders), the College of Pharmacy, Clinical Vision Science Programme, the Healthy Populations Institute, and the Centre for Collaborative Clinical Learning and Research (C3LR-CHEB). The Faculty’s PhD in Health Programme is unique within Canada.

Programme options
- Thesis: Pursue independent and original research guided by a supervisor to develop and defend your thesis.
- Project: If you don’t have a research-based Masters degree, choose our three-year project stream. Before writing your thesis, you’ll complete a research project in your chosen area.

General requirements
- Candidates must satisfy the general requirements for admission to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. In addition to these, the programme has the following requirements:
- Students will be accepted into the PhD programme only after completion of a master’s degree from an accredited programme. Applicants who have completed a research (thesis-based) master’s degree are eligible for the two-year residency PhD programme and those who have completed a non-thesis master’s degree are eligible for the three-year residency PhD programme. Enrollnment must be on a full-time basis and there is no distance learning option.
- Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (B average) in the last 60 credit hours of study
- For International applicants, a minimum English Language Competency score of TOEFL 92 (Internet) or IELTS 7.
