Dalhousie University 's Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing programme is the only nursing doctorate degree offered in Nova Scotia.
This programme prepares nurse scientists and scholars to provide leadership in the advancement of nursing knowledge, theory, and practice and health policy, through scholarly research and the dissemination of research findings.

General requirements
- Have completed a four-year (or equivalent) bachelor’s degree in Nursing
- Hold a master’s degree in Nursing or another relevant discipline, awarded by a recognized university.
- Be licenced to practice as a Registered Nurse in a Canadian province or foreign country
- Have a minimum admission grade-point average of 3.7 (Applicants with a GPA of less than 3.7 are still encouraged to apply as we consider all aspects of the application equally.)
- Provide a study plan outlining area of research interest, how it fits with the research programme of the proposed supervisor, preliminary thesis research plans and career plans
