Political and national commitments and involvements are topics of interest here, ‘civil religion’ is a strong area of our existing research. This degree in The State, Citizenships and Identities programme is offered at The Open University UK.
Research
We have published extensively about how ceremonies expressive of local belonging, political affiliation, or the remembrance of war dead, intersect with religious and non-religious activities and identities.
We have also published on the intersections of nationalist and religious identity and practice, on emergent citizenships and social movements and on questions of identity and conflict in 19th- and early-20th-century England and Northern Ireland.
These interests overlap substantially with our research on lived and vernacular religions and non-religion, religiously inspired activism, disinformation, and broader questions of cultural and societal change.
