Overview
Materials engineering is the discipline where advanced engineering and cutting-edge science meet. The PhD students at Gdansk University of Technology research how to design and manipulate the structure and properties of materials not only at macroscopic but also at a molecular and atomic level.
With a solid base in chemistry, physics, and mathematics, they add to specific engineering knowledge in nanotechnology, electroceramics, biomaterials, conducting polymers, advanced semi- and superconductors, photovoltaics, non-destructive testing of materials and many more thrilling fields.
Career opportunities
With a PhD degree in Materials Engineering, alumni can choose many paths of their career. Graduates work in academia, national laboratories, obtain industry jobs, work for the government and for non-profit organizations.
Their choices often include foreign institutions, which is facilitated by wide collaboration between Gdańsk University of Technology and foreign institutions. Current established collaborations of the GUT staff include groups from United States, Korea, India, Norway, Great Britain and many more.
Expert positions appropriate for a graduate with a PhD degree in materials engineering comprise: consulting engineer; materials researcher; academic Professor; senior data analyst.
