Overview
The The Natural Sciences programme at Adam Mickiewicz University Poznan covers two main disciplines: biological sciences and Earth and environmental sciences, each addressing different aspects of the natural world. Biological sciences explore living systems across all levels of organization, from molecular processes and cellular biology to ecosystems and global biodiversity, supported by research conducted across varied environments and biomes.
Key Facts
Research activities within biological sciences span areas such as molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, physiology, ecology, and evolutionary biology, as well as studies on human biology and evolution.
These activities are supported by dedicated institutes and research groups that investigate biological processes across organisms and environments using modern infrastructure and diverse scientific approaches.
Earth and environmental sciences focus on the study of the Earth’s structure, processes, and interactions with natural and human systems. Research addresses topics such as climate change, water resource management, geoecosystems, natural hazards, and the impact of human activity on the environment, integrating knowledge from disciplines including biology, physics, chemistry, and engineering.
The programme emphasizes interdisciplinary research and supports the development of scientific projects that analyze both past and present processes shaping the planet. It combines theoretical understanding with applied analysis, contributing to the study of environmental challenges, resource use, and the functioning of natural systems at local, regional, and global levels.
