Overview

Architecture course from Abdullah Gül University (AGU) is expected to support the following needs of the architectural profession:

• There are around one hundred active architecture departments in public and private universities across Turkey, and new ones are being established. Considering the existing academic workforce, there is a clear need for faculty members to work in architecture departments. Given that current Ph.D. programmees are concentrated in central locations such as Istanbul and Ankara, it is evident that a Ph.D. programme to be established in a central city of Anatolia like Kayseri would contribute significantly as an important alternative in producing the needed academic workforce.
• The programme aims to produce academic knowledge in the field of architecture with a research, study, and application-oriented approach, focusing on space and interdisciplinary expertise. It aims to expand the field of architectural knowledge nationally and internationally through qualitative and quantitative research techniques and experimental methods. The programme will train researchers who will focus on the field of architectural knowledge.
• The Ph.D. programme conducted in English aims to train academic workforce and researchers not only specific to Turkey but also globally, particularly in geographies with which it has close relationships.
• The programme aims to create new and active research/study areas in interaction and communication with fields of science and social sciences, supporting the production and development of knowledge. It aims to bring together qualified researchers who have received undergraduate and master’s education in architecture, engineering, and social sciences and who wish to specialize in space, aiming to produce and develop multidimensional academic knowledge.
• In line with AGÜ’s mission and vision, the programme aims to transform the expert-level knowledge produced in the Ph.D. programme into social benefit through collaborations with public and civil society organizations and sectors it is closely related to.

• The programme aims to contribute significantly to the international visibility of the knowledge produced in the field of architecture with the participation of international students and faculty members. Key facts:

The AGÜ Ph.D. programme in Architecture focuses on topics such as the design, representation, construction, and installation of space, its history, conservation, and restoration, its use, interaction with its users and environment, communication, and transformation. In this context, research and studies are expected to be conducted in areas such as building, built environments, and human-society centered design, history, construction techniques, building materials and technologies, sociology, philosophy, and archaeology.
