Westlake University 's  Chemistry Ph.D. programme is interdisciplinary, innovative, diverse, and collaborative.

Organic Chemistry and Chemical Biology

• Research areas include organic catalysis, supramolecular organic functional assembly, chiral synthesis, metal-organic methodology and chemical biology. 

• Our feature is to give full play to the advantages of basic disciplines of organic chemistry while establishing and developing new theories and methods, studying reaction mechanisms, and guiding the discovery of new reactions, the invention of efficient catalysts, and the innovation of synthesis strategies of complex natural product molecules and biological macromolecules. 

• It focuses on the intersection with life and medical science, materials and manufacturing science, and concentrates on solving basic scientific problems in the design and development of organic functional molecules.

Materials & Nanoscience

• The research area focuses on the chemical synthesis, physicochemical properties of materials and the constitutive relationship between electrons, atoms, molecules and microstructure of materials. 

• The discipline focuses on the cross, penetration and fusion between materials science and physics, chemistry, biology, computer and other disciplines. Our faculty conduct innovative research in the fields of efficient energy conversion and storage materials, new biological environmental protection materials, and computer-aided material design.

Physical Chemistry and Computational Chemistry

• Research areas include homogeneous/heterogeneous catalysis, electrochemistry, theoretical and computational chemistry, photochemistry, surface interface chemistry, energy chemistry, structure and spectroscopy, chemical reaction kinetics, etc. 

• It is characterized by the combination of basic theory and calculation method, precise measurement principle and analysis method, and application innovation technology, and plays the role of physical chemistry as the basis of theory and technology method of chemistry and related disciplines.
