Overview
Research topic description:
The objective of the Research on impedance measurement methods (Electrical and Electronics Engineering) at VILNIUS TECH : To develop a new method of electrochemical/electrical impedance measurement and to apply it to a scanning impedance microscope.
A scanning electrochemical impedance microscope is used to study the local electrochemical and electrical properties of various surfaces (from semiconductors to biological objects) by measuring the electrochemical impedance. Such a microscope consists of two main parts: a mechanical part that positions the microelectrode and an electrochemical complete resistance measurement equipment. This equipment is usually a potentiostat that applies an alternating voltage and measures the current and phase shift. In fast-changing systems, this method of measurement is too slow, because the most important information is obtained at low frequencies, the measurement time of which is quite long and lasts up to 30 min. In this case, it is appropriate to use the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) method for signal spectrum processing. With currently available equipment, it is possible to obtain a response in the same frequency range in a few seconds using the FFT method. However, the problem with this device is that it generates excessive noises that drown out the response of sensitive (eg biological) systems.
The selected candidate will work on the PhD thesis under the supervision of assoc. prof. dr. Dainius Udris The successful applicant will have to attend scientific conferences, meetings and internships at other universities.
