The start of the present-day Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) is deemed to be September 1, 1956, when Vilnius Evening Division of the Evening Faculty of Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (KPI) was established. A specialist in chemistry Assoc. Prof. Jeronimas Kudaba (1909-1992) was appointed the Dean of this division.
The university's mission is to develop a publicly responsible, creative, competitive individual who is receptive to science, the latest technologies and cultural values; to promote scientific progress, social and economic well-being; to create value that ensures the development of both Lithuania and the region in the global context.
The university's vision is to be a prestigious Lithuanian institution of higher education, the scientific and studies level of which conform to the best European technical universities' level. The university is attractive for both Lithuanian and foreign students, is able to respond to the environmental challenges and has a great social importance to the national progress.
Vilnius Gediminas Technical University’s research has always been focused on the European Research Area. In order to achieve the best result in research, University shifts towards multidisciplinarity in science. Now, the main research areas integrate electronics, IT, transport and social sciences. VGTU is ready to participate in national and international projects and to collaborate with business sector, it fosters national and international collaboration and helps to establish ties between research institutions and the business sector.

Every September the University announces the start of the study year with an annual festival “Gediminas days”. Student parade in Vilnius streets, concerts, entertainment and experimentation spaces – this way VGTU presents itself and welcomes all the students, staff, alumni and university fellows.
VGTU international students dormitory is situated in the university campus, it takes about 7-10 min walk to the building of administration of the university and faculties of Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Business Management and Fundamental Sciences. Faculties of Architecture, Electronics, Mechanics and Transport Engineering are located in the city; A.Gustaitis Aviation Institute is located near the International Airport.
For accommodation in the dormitory you have to pay in bank during the first three days of your arrival.
Usually it is a block, which consists of two double rooms, a hall, WC, shower and a kitchen. There are few blocks that contain one double room, WC, shower and a kitchen.

It is an integral searching system allowing access to search for Vilnius Gediminas Technical University Library resources, subscribed databases, open access electronic resources, LST standards, other Lithuanian universities libraries resources, Lithuanian Academic Electronic Library (eLABa).
