Overview
Research topic description: Global supply chains are a key driver of the modern economy. Still, their international nature and high dependence on various factors, such as geopolitical events, climate change, technological disruptions, and economic crises, make them highly vulnerable. This is also supported by supply chain disruptions in recent years related to pandemics and geopolitical tensions, which have highlighted the need to better understand the sources of risk and manage them more effectively to ensure the continuity and resilience of global supply chains. Despite efforts to balance supply chains, risk management practices remain dominated by approaches that fail to effectively predict risks due to data fragmentation and a lack of tools for their analysis, lack an integrated approach, and pay insufficient attention to the systemic strengthening of supply chain resilience.
The dissertation aims to develop and practically apply a systemic risk management model for global supply chains to reduce their vulnerability and ensure continuity and resilience.
The results of this dissertation could be used:
- to conduct an empirical analysis showing which segments of global supply chains are the most vulnerable;
- to develop a decision-making tool that helps supply chain managers analyse and manage risks in real-time;
- to develop an integrated risk management model that assesses various types of risks (operational, financial, geopolitical, environmental, etc.) and their impact on global supply chains;
- to develop recommendations for risk reduction based on practical prevention, adaptation, and recovery solutions.
This dissertation would contribute significantly to the theory of global supply chain risk management by integrating technological solutions and applying a systemic approach to the object under analysis. At a practical level, the proposed models and tools could be applied in various sectors to ensure the stability and resilience of supply chains even under conditions of uncertainty.
