The Economics programme from Corvinus University of Budapest draws on the expertise of Corvinus researchers. Students from recognised Master’s programmes may be exempted from core courses if they have previously studied similar subjects in their Master’s programme.

Programme Structure

The programme is organized around the following modules:

Core module. In the core module, students study four core subjects: microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics and causal data analysis.

Field module. The programme has four fields: theory, empirical research, finance, macroeconomics. To complete a field, students need to complete 3 field courses. In addition, they must complete another 3 courses.

Research module. Students will gradually transfer from coursework to individual research. From the beginning of the programme, students attend research seminars and present their research ideas at the Doctoral Seminar, where they can get advice from the faculty and outside experts. At the complex examination, students present a detailed research plan.

At the end of the second year, students take a complex examination, which is based upon the field courses. At the exam, students also present a detailed research proposal.

General requirements

A degree from a university or equivalent accredited Master’s programme (MA or MSc) (Part-time MBA degrees are not accepted).

A minimum level of B2 in English is required to complete the training. Please upload copies of language examinations, if available, as proof of language proficiency on the application page.

You can apply even if you have no prior studies in the relevant discipline (but otherwise meet all the admission requirements). You can start your studies on condition that you take the designated catch-up courses and pass an exam in the first semester of your PhD studies.

Preference will be given to applicants who have won an OTDK (National Scientific Students’ Associations Conference) award. Proven research ability (OTD, scientific publications) is also an advantage.
