Overview
It studies the pathophysiological mechanisms and the nature of disease processes at the organism level and at the cellular and subcellular level.
During the study, the student will learn to independently formulate a scientific problem, formulate a scientific hypothesis, prepare and implement a scientific experiment, use physical and biological model organisms. Objectively evaluate the results obtained by statistical analysis. The main goal of these activities will be theoretical as well as practical implications of methods of processing research tasks. The student's abilities after completing the study programme will be based on the framework topics, which are as follows: Pathophysiological context of respiratory disorders during sleep. Metabolic, endocrine and cardiovascular mechanisms associated with respiratory arrest during sleep and subsequent hypoxia. Use of instrumentation to monitor physiological functions during wakefulness as well as during sleep.

Graduates of the Normal and Pathological Physiology programme from Pavol Jozef Safárik University in Kosicey, 3rd degree of university study, will master the principles and methodology of scientific work and will be qualified to perform professional and scientific activities in the field of physiology and pathological physiology. The theoretical knowledge and practical skills they will acquire will also enable them to pursue the profession of researcher in medical disciplines such as internal medicine, endocrinology, diabetology, metabolism and nutrition, as well as veterinary medicine and pharmacology.
