Understands the issues of epidemiology, focused on the incidence and distribution of diseases and health-related conditions, as well as their determinants in defined populations and the application of the results of these studies to control health problems (diseases) and evaluate the effectiveness of measures.

The Epidemiology programme from Pavol Jozef Safárik University in Kosice studies the occurrence of health determinants in the population and relates it to the health outcome of the observed population. During the study, he finds out the causes of individual health phenomena and thus contributes to the research of the etiology of the disease.

The graduates will learn to independently implement epidemiological monitoring and research, formulate and verify working hypotheses using mathematical and statistical analysis, while respecting ethical and social requirements. Based on his/her own research and monitoring using appropriately selected methodological procedures, he/she is able to formulate conclusions and based on them brings suggestions for solving identified problems in the field of disease epidemiology and evidence usable in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care of individuals and society as a whole.
