Overview
The student of Internal Diseases programme from Pavol Jozef Safárik University in Kosice will compile the results of his/her research into a dissertation, which he/she is required to defend by the end of the school year of the standard length of study. He conducts selected practical training sessions and carries out the work of a secondary doctor in the department on a limited basis.

The requirements for graduation are knowledge of the pathophysiology of internal diseases, including molecular mechanisms; knowledge of the basics of diagnosis of internal diseases, including new diagnostic procedures; knowledge of the principles of management of internal diseases, including modern pharmacotherapy; knowledge of prognostic systems predicting survival and the incidence of complications; knowledge of the interpretation of laboratory, translational and clinical research, including the interpretation of the registration of new drugs; Interpretation of the principles of laboratory and translational medicine in internal medicine; Preparation and implementation of a scientific experiment, including the design of a protocol for prospective or retrospective clinical trials;
Objective evaluation of the results obtained and their statistical analysis; Extension and modernisation of diagnostic procedures in medicine; Ability to present own research results to the professional public at conferences and scientific events; Publication of 3 original scientific papers at home and abroad.
They will learn the principles of scientific work, problem definition, continuity of basic and applied research, legal aspects of experimental and clinical research, including the introduction of new treatments, ethical and social aspects of scientific work. They will be able to present the results of scientific research in publication and lecture form.
