Focus of the programme
Economics, Finance and Management is a research-oriented doctoral programme focused on advanced economic analysis, financial research, and evidence-based decision-making. From the start of the application process, applicants define their research focus and choose a potential supervisor, ensuring strong alignment between their dissertation topic and the Faculty’s research expertise.
Specialisations and research areas
Students can pursue research in a wide range of fields, including Empirical Economics (Labour and Health), Behavioral and Experimental Economics, Macroeconomics, Finance, Regional and Transport Economics, Public Economics and Administration, Business Management, and Environmental Economics. The programme also offers the option of a collaborative PhD, allowing students to link their professional experience with academic research.

Graduates are prepared for international academic careers, including postdoctoral positions, as well as for high-level analytical and research roles in multinational companies, international institutions, public administration, financial organisations, and other research-driven environments. Programme Structure
The doctoral study is highly individualised and based on an Individual Study Plan prepared in cooperation with the supervisor. The four-year programme combines doctoral courses, independent research, publication activity, teaching experience, and regular progress evaluations. Key milestones include annual TAC evaluations, an international internship, internal defence, and final dissertation defence.

The programme is intended for highly motivated graduates with a strong academic background in economics, finance, management, or related disciplines who aim to pursue research-oriented careers. It is suitable both for candidates targeting academic careers and for professionals interested in a collaborative PhD linking scientific research with practice.
Lecturers
Teaching and supervision are provided by experienced academic staff of the Faculty of Economics and Administration whose research expertise covers a wide range of fields in economics, finance, and management. Students work closely with their chosen supervisor and may also collaborate with other researchers within the faculty or external research institutions.

Living costs

The living costs include the total expenses per month, covering accommodation, public transportation, utilities (electricity, internet), books and groceries.
Funding
For the standard four-year period of study, doctoral students are entitled to a scholarship. The basic amount is determined by the currently valid measures of the Rector and ECON MUNI. During the standard period of study, the scholarship is approximately CZK 20,000 net per month and may increase with active involvement in teaching or participation in external research projects.
