Overview

The Medical Neuroscience programme from Comenius University Bratislava is focused on the research of morphological and functional aspects of the nervous system bridging preclinical (e.g. neuroanatomy, neurohistology, neurophysiology and pharmacology) and clinical (e.g. neurology, psychiatry, psychology) disciplines.

The students in Medical Neurosciences learn independently to formulate a scientific problem, formulate a scientific hypothesis, prepare and realize a scientific experiment, use biological model organisms and tissue cultures at the research, objectively assess obtained results and their statistical analysis in areas ranging from molecular and cellular neuroscience, developmental neurobiology, systems and cognitive neuroscience to translational neuroscience such as animal modelling of neurological and mental diseases and further to human clinical research.

Career opportunities

Graduates are sought at the healthcare workplaces (e.g. clinics or departments of neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry and clinical psychology) focused on neuroscience. Graduates from the doctoral studies might find employment in the frame of education as university teachers or scientific research workers at universities focused on medicine, health care, biology, cognitive science, biomedical physics, bioinformatics and biomedical engineering.
