Overview

The Economics course at Tilburg University offers a vibrant atmosphere for learning and conducting research under supervision of leading professors in the various areas.

Most PhD candidates become paid employees at the School and have full access to the state-of-the-art research facilities, financial and other relevant databases, extensive weekly seminar options, opportunities for conference visits and international research visits, and a challenging course program. A dedicated job placement committee of senior staff prepares our PhD candidates to find a suitable (academic) position after successful completion of the PhD program.

Curriculum:

After the first year, a formal evaluation will take place based on your performance and progress in the program.

In case of a positive decision, you will continue your doctoral research project, resulting in a dissertation typically consisting of three papers suitable for publication in leading academic journals in your field of specialization.

Most PhD candidates will also participate in teaching and supervise students in our undergraduate and master’s programs.

General requirements

An academic Master’s or Research Master’s degree in economics, econometrics or another relevant field that is deemed an equivalent to the previous education profile.

Applicants holding a Research Master's degree in one of the fields above hold a preferred position.

Completed the previous degree with an excellent GPA.

A solid quantitative background, to be proven in one of the following ways:

candidates with a MSc or MPhil degree from a Research University in the European Union need to have at least 24 ECTS credits in quantitative and research methods courses during their BSc and/or MSc or MPhil programs. If this is not the case, but you would still like to be considered for admission, you are welcome to hand in a GRE or GMAT test score to show your quantitative competences.

candidates with a MSc or MPhil degree from a university outside the European Union: please provide a recent GRE or GMAT test score.

When accepted in the program, you'll become an employee of Tilburg University. You do not have to pay tuition fees or course fees for the mandatory courses
