Overview

Students in the PhD in Business at University of Buckingham are registered initially for the degree of PhD (Doctor of Philosophy), although their status is probationary until the first Annual Review has taken place, normally between 12 and 18 months from first registration. All research students must also subject their work to an annual progress review. Credits from the PhD in Business permit a Blackbelt accreditation with the “International Lean Six Sigma Institute”.

Postgraduate research is not to be taken lightly! Above all, we seek to achieve an acceptable match involving a capable and well-motivated student, an appropriate research topic, and a member of faculty able / willing to supervise the research.

Industry accreditations

Upon completion of the PhD in Business, you will have achieved credits for the BlackBelt in Lean Six Sigma (LSS). This is awarded by the prestigious “International Lean Six Sigma Institute”, incorporating a minor certification cost only.

General requirements

The successful applicant should have been awarded, or expect to achieve, a First or Upper Second Class award in their Undergraduate Degree, and/or a Merit or Distinction in their master’s degree, in relevant subjects. Equivalent to a British level 7 degree. We welcome applicants with a master’s degree in any area of business or management, including (but not limited to) marketing, finance, business, project management, or the social sciences.
If you do not possess a master’s degree; candidates with an equivalent of a First or Upper Second Class award in their Undergraduate Degree with 3+ years of practitioner experience will be considered.
Professional qualifications other than a Bachelors Degree and/or relevant and appropriate experience may be taken into account for entry to a PhD programme. Professional qualifications are examined on their merits and may strengthen the case for entry.
